The Punxsutawney Historical Society is a great place to go if you want to look up genealogy of Punxsutawney relatives or see photos of what it was like in Punxsutawney between the 1890s and 1960s. The Punxsutawney Historical Society also has a museum and gift shop. The Lattimer House is a point of interest for Groundhog Day history, traveling exhibits, and geneological research.

For those people who are energetic, there is mountain biking and hiking. The Mahoning Shadow Trail is part of Rails To Trails, an organization that converts old unused railroad tracks into bike trails. Rails To Trails can also be found in a few other towns that surround Punxsutawney.
